In 1977, Vacheron Constantin celebrated its 222nd anniversary, and to celebrate they launched its first sports watch, named the 222. Many people think the 222 was designed by Gerald Genta, but it was actually designed by Jorg Hysek, who said about it:
"I wanted to design a sporty and elegant watch, while at the same time striking the right balance between these two elements to fit into the classic and refined universe of Vacheron Constantin."
he 222 watch had a seven-year production run, resulting in approximately 500 units made from steel, 150 from gold, and less than 100 in two-tone, all featuring an integrated bracelet.
