Rolex Precision "Pre-Cellini" ref.9578 from 1960

It’s not often that you come across a dress watch like this—especially from Rolex. Not only is it an uncommon dressy offering from the brand, but it also features a rare square case. Produced only in 1959 and 1960, this model showcases a beautiful white-gold case measuring 26mm, sitting elegantly on the wrist.

The most intriguing detail is the caseback engraving “Brevet Demande” (“patent pending” in French). This refers to the early patent for the four-point screw-down caseback construction that would later be used in the first-generation King Midas ref. 9630 in 1962, and subsequently in the 4315 and 3580 King Midas models.

In many ways, this is an important and historic watch—the true grandfather of the King Midas.
