In 1989, the Explorer II saw its second reference update from the evolution of the 16550 to the 16570. The caliber was updated to the 3185 and later to the caliber 3186. On the white dial, the hour markers were now outlined in a striking contrast of black gold instead of white as previously, and the result is visually quite stunning.
