Technically a Datejust, but modified with a bi-directional numbered bezel such as the one found on the toolish Submariner, GMT-Master, or Sea-Dweller, this Thunderbird is the ultimate in elegant sportswear. The bezel was an addition incorporated in the watch’s design in 1955, and was utilized by the U.S. Air Force "Thunderbirds," who specialized in aerial acrobatics. Though technically the model is called the Turn-O-Graph, it was always referred to as the "Thunderbird" for the American market to capitalize on the patriotic appeal of those high-flying airmen. The reference 1625, the second iteration of the Thunderbird, was only ever manufactured in full yellow gold or in two-tone steel with a yellow or white gold bezel. In addition to the sharp 18k yellow-gold bezel, this example has a gold champagne colored dial and a alligator strap.
