Rolex Datejust ref.16013 Buckley Full-Set de 1985

The two tones are always a bit controversial, but for those who love it, they really love it. Much happens with the Rolex Datejust ref. 16013, which while easily appreciated for its Datejust qualities, is a true wonder with its yellow gold bezel and crown against its famous 36mm stainless steel oyster-type case.

When launched in 1977, ref. 16013 represented the next generation of two-tone Datejusts. Departing from the famous ref. 1601, which included steel and two-tone watches, the then-new 16013 introduced to the Datejust design family a unique two-tone reference number and an improved mechanical movement that helped ensure the watch a lasting place in Rolex's catalog until the late 1980s.

In particular, the 16013 was one of the first Datejust references to feature the Rolex Caliber 3035, replacing the Calibers 1565 and 1575 mechanisms used throughout the 160X reference series. The movement notably features a higher frequency at 28,000 vph, ensuring smoother hand movement, a quick date-setting function, and chronometer specifications.

The watch we have the opportunity to offer to our friends and collectors today features a rare and desired "Buckley" dial named after John Buckley, who christened this watch configuration in the Diamond District NY among his circle of collectors in the 2000s. This variation consists of a dial with Roman numerals and black hands that give the Datejust watches a unique personality.

This piece is in impeccable condition, almost unused despite being over 37 years old. In addition to the 6 pieces of documentation and boxes that come with the watch, we have the original purchase note that tells us the watch was bought in Bermuda in 1985 by a gentleman named Fernando, from whom we acquired the watch firsthand.
