The Ressence Type 1.3 HOD3 is one of those watches that needs no context to impress—yet possesses an extraordinary one. Ressence, the Belgian manufacture founded by industrial designer Benoît Mintiens, is built around a radical premise: how can time be displayed in the clearest and most intuitive way possible, eliminating everything that is unnecessary? The result is the ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System), an architecture in which the hour, minute, second, and day discs orbit one another on a single plane, without hands, without a crown, and without convention.

This third collaboration with Hodinkee pushes that philosophy to its limit. A monobloc Grade 5 titanium case coated in black DLC houses a three-dimensional skeletonized honeycomb dial with indexes and numerals filled with Super-LumiNova. The ROCS 1.3 caliber separates its architecture into a modified ETA 2824 base movement and a 107-component orbital module above, incorporating 27 gears and 40 jewels, which calculates the hours, seconds, and day of the week from a single input: the minute axis. Pure cutting-edge horology, produced in a strictly limited run of just 40 pieces worldwide.
