Medana Bicolore Salmon Dial NOS from 1930s

Founded in 1888, Meyer & Stüdeli was the manufacturer behind Medana, Medena and Meda, alongside the name that would eventually eclipse them all: Roamer. Registered around 1909, Medana became one of the company’s principal export marques, with many of its watches powered by proprietary MST calibres rather than generic outsourced movements. 

This particular watch features an unusual and highly attractive two-tone black and salmon dial and the case present hinged lugs.  More remarkably, it survives in exceptional new-old-stock condition, apparently never having been worn and showing only minor traces of storage accumulated over the decades.

The strap, completely original to the watch, remains stitched around the fixed bars between the lugs. This construction is characteristic of many early wristwatches: before removable spring bars became widely adopted during the late 1930s, straps were commonly sewn directly around fixed bars soldered into the case. Its survival in this remarkably complete state makes the watch an unusually evocative example of 1930s Swiss production.
