The 1958 Omega Seamaster 300 Reference CK2913-1 holds great significance among Omega Seamaster collectors as it is considered the ultimate prize. This particular model marks the first iteration of this historically important Omega watch. It is distinguished by its correct countdown bezel, which was exclusively featured in the initial years of production. Specifically, among the eight variations produced, the first two typically had countdown bezel inserts, while the subsequent six usually had forward count bezels.

The countdown bezel serves the purpose of timing the duration of underwater dives, while the forward count bezel functions as a timer. The bezel inserts are delicately thin and exhibit numbered markings for every ten minutes, complemented by notches at the five-minute mark, all in a distinct font from the dial itself.

It is worth noting that the bakelite bezel, known for its fragility, remarkably remains intact, which is truly remarkable after 65 years. The watch is further distinguished by its original Broadarrow hands, patented Naiad Crown, and domed Omega Crystal, all contributing to its desirability among collectors, particularly because it has remained untouched throughout its lifespan.

Regarding variations, the CK2913 had a total of eight versions, commencing with the 2913-1 in 1957 and culminating with the 2913-8 in 1961. All variations shared the same matte dial design, showcasing triangular hour indices with recessed radium plots and white Arabic numerals at each quarter hour. This design choice significantly improves legibility due to the contrasting shapes and font types employed. With a case diameter of 38.5mm, the watch strikes a balance between its presence on the wrist and readability.

This specific watch is powered by the self-winding caliber 501 movement, as it was specifically imported to South America, specifically Mexico. In contrast, models delivered to the US utilized the caliber 500 variant, which is considered less desirable, featuring 17 jewels. The caliber 501, with its 19/20 jewels, was produced to higher standards, enhancing the watch's overall performance.
