The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Moonphase ref. 140.252.1 in 18k yellow gold brings together two of the Vallée de Joux manufacture’s greatest passions: the most iconic reversible case in watchmaking history and the moon-phase display—one of the most poetic and contemplative complications a watch can offer.
The Reverso was created in 1931 for British officers playing polo in India, who needed to protect their watch crystals during matches. Nearly a century later, the swivelling case devised as a practical solution has become one of the most distinctive canvases in fine watchmaking. On this example, the reverse bears a personal engraving, making it genuinely unique.
The silvered dial elegantly incorporates a moon-phase display within its rectangular 23 × 38mm proportions. Its celestial disc offers both precision and visual poetry, while the quartz movement allows the complication to operate without the frequent adjustment required by a mechanical movement. Applied gold numerals and matching sword-shaped hands provide excellent legibility while preserving the discreet elegance associated with the Maison.
Crafted from 18k yellow gold, the case retains the three horizontal gadroons that have defined the Reverso since 1931. Together with the personal engraving on its reverse, they complete a watch with a history that is quite literally inscribed upon its case.
