Gerald Genta Retro Sport 38mm de 1999
Gerald Genta Retro Sport 38mm de 1999
The work of Gérald Genta in the watchmaking world is very prolific. He is the man behind the design of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus, of course, but that is only half of the story. Genta created his own eponymous label in 1969 and, through it, explored a series of designs, one of which is the "Retro Sport" design which features a jumping hour window at 12 o'clock with a minute track along the bottom half of the dial. Every 60 minutes, the minute hand will return to zero as the hour counter passes.
This watch perfectly represents Gerald's creativity and innovation of the time, a watch with classic (perfect) proportions thanks to its 38mm case which is extremely comfortable to wear on the wrist. The piece also includes modern elements such as its symmetrical dial with luminous numbers and carbon fiber in the center of the watch. One of my favorite elements of this watch is undoubtedly its profiled case very similar to the cases found in Breguet watches. It is amazing how many elements coexist in harmony in this watch, undoubtedly an extremely complicated and harmonious simplicity.
