Daniel Roth is one of the most important personalities in 20th century watchmaking because he is part of a very particular school of watchmakers who were trained with traditional techniques, skills, and classical design elements. Roth worked at Breguet from 1973 to 1987, where he developed many of his skills as well as his own understanding of design, which later became a great inspiration for the creation of his own models.

The Metropolitan model evokes a technique as radical as it is ambitious to master timekeeping worldwide. Simply pressing the button at 4 o'clock displays the 24 different time zones in the openings at 6 and 12 o'clock. The local time is automatically displayed on the central dial. The small opening at 12 o'clock indicates whether the time is AM or PM. The second opening shows the reference time zone. Daylight saving time correction is made by two correctors located at 8 and 10 o'clock.
