The Cartier Ref. 1543, also known as the Paris iteration of this rare model, shares the iconic small crown, a snap-on (push) caseback without screws, and lacks the recessed crown guard found on the London iteration.
The engraved caseback, featuring French inscriptions, conceals internal serial numbers and houses the ETA 2512 — designated by Cartier as Caliber 78-1 — reflecting the brand’s philosophy at the time of producing refined entry-level timepieces.
These models were issued in gold-coated steel, and production of the Ref. 1543 was limited to only a few hundred pieces. Discontinued in 1976, the rarest iteration features a striking blue dial — an exceptional rarity among all versions. It is estimated that only a couple hundred examples were ever produced with blue dials.
