Cartier Santos Dumont ref.78097 from 1970s

The Cartier Santos-Dumont ref. 78097 represents the classic 1970s Santos, preceding the introduction of the Santos Carrée in 1979. In our opinion, it is the one of the finest expression of the model and a product of Cartier’s last truly great vintage era.

Its unpolished case preserves remarkably sharp edges and honest proportions, while the strong natural patina gives the watch a depth and character that cannot be recreated. Finding an example with this level of originality is exceptionally difficult.

The watch retains its original Cartier deployant buckle and is fitted with a handmade pigskin strap by Galbée Atelier in Paris, bespoke for a 16.5–17 cm wrist. Its mechanical movement has also been completely serviced, making this rare Santos ready to be enjoyed.
