Cartier needs no introduction when it comes to innovative design. The brand created the first wristwatch in 1911 with the Santos-Dumont and shortly after, the Tank, designs that were reinvented time and time again without fear of pushing boundaries. The Maison continued with this same sense of innovation and creativity when it came to designing case shapes for their watches over the years. Models like Tortue, Cabriolet, Cintrée, and Crash really stand out for having little to no comparison with other brands, yet the family resemblance of Cartier designs is present in most of their vintage watches.
The Cristallor is believed to have been introduced in the early 1970s as an expansion of the Tank collection, and continued production in the 1980s. That being said, the model is often mistakenly identified as the "stepped Tank" and many collectors are surprised to discover this watch due to how uncommon it is to come across a Cristallor for sale.
In person, this Cartier is truly special. The 18k yellow gold case with three steps catches the eye with its hidden lugs. When combined with a black lizard leather strap, like the one we have placed here, the presence on the wrist is classically Cartier. The size of this watch carries the proportions of the original Cartier Tank at 23mm, making it a timeless and uncommon classic of the brand.
