Andersen Geneve World Time Chronograph from 1990

Founded in 1980 by Svend Andersen, Andersen Genève stands as one of the great pillars of independent Swiss watchmaking. Before founding his own atelier, Andersen honed his craft at Patek Philippe, working in the prestigious Grand Complications workshop.

This watch represents an early and important iteration of an Andersen Genève world time chronograph, produced in 1990, a defining era when Svend Andersen was among the pioneers of the independent watchmaking movement. Combining a chronograph with a world time complication, the piece reflects Andersen’s deep mastery of global timekeeping, rooted in the classical Louis Cottier fashion, the original inventor of the world time mechanism. Andersen’s connection to this lineage is authentic and direct, having worked extensively with Cottier-inspired systems during his years at Patek Philippe in the 1970s.

This example was found completely untouched, bearing a warm and honest patina that speaks to decades of careful storage in a safe. The case has never been polished and shows crisp, original surfaces, preserving the watch exactly as it left the atelier. It was most likely never worn, a conclusion supported by the presence of the original strap, which remains in unworn condition and still accompanies the watch today.

The movement is equally untouched. All screws are intact and free from any signs of manipulation, a rare and highly desirable trait. The watch runs smoothly, keeps excellent time, and reflects the exceptional quality and care with which it was originally assembled. Altogether, this is a remarkably preserved example—one that offers a true and unaltered glimpse into the craftsmanship of its era.
